THERE were celebrations galore in Leabank Nursing Home in Ballycastle last week as much-loved resident Maureen Wilson marked her 100th birthday!
Maureen Wilson (nee Quinn) was born in Dunloy on  August 15 1918 and in later years taught in Armoy Primary School until 1947.
That year Maureen met her husband, Dr Tommy Wilson.
Apart from one year spent in Belleek, Maureen has spent all her married life in Ballycastle where she has enjoyed all the amenities Ballycastle has to offer, such as walking and golfing.
Maureen had five children, Marie, Paula, Aidan, Dominic and Malachy.
Her four surviving children, her 10 grand children and two great-grand children all celebrated her hundredth birthday with her last week.
Tommy, her husband, died in 1995 and, following a hip operation four years ago, Maureen now resides in Leabank nursing home in the seaside town.
When asked what is the secret of her long life Maureen replied "Plenty of warm cardigans and the wonderful help I receive from all the staff here in Leabank!"
Best wishes Maureen from all at The Chronicle!
