SUPERCUPNI chairman Victor Leonard has revealed that next summer's tournament will be pushed back in the calendar - to accommodate the return of The Open Championship after an absence of 67 years.
The two sporting events traditionally take place in the same week, with the SuperCupNI opening ceremony usually held on the same day as the final round of The Open.
But with hundreds of thousands of visitors expected to converge on the north coast this time next year, the football tournament's organisers have agreed to revise their dates.
The 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush is expected to be the biggest sporting event ever held in Ireland, providing a huge economic boost to the region.
Defending champion Francesco Molinari, who won in such style at Carnoustie last weekend, says he is already looking forward to defending his title in 12 months' time.
