THE Easter Stages Rally is set to make a comeback next year and will form part of the Irish Tarmac Championship, the organising Ulster Automobile Club has said.
It will fill the void left by the Circuit of Ireland Rally which is not taking place due to the impasse at Stormont and fresh concerns surrounding financial assistance.
Scheduled for the weekend of April 6th/7th, the Easter Stages Rally will give crews the option to compete on one or both days of the closed-roads competition.
That means it will become the third round of the Tarmac Championship and push the number of international scoring rounds up from six to seven next season.
Those sitting on the organising committee are currently in the process of trying to establish a suitable location for both service and rally HQ, Ulster Automobile Club spokesperson Chris Beck told Chronicle Sport, with a number of classic special stages in County Antrim also under review as part of members' initial planning.
“The organising committee is working in conjunction with other local motor clubs to secure the very best stages that this particular area is known for," explained Beck, who refused to be drawn on specific details. "Until agreements have been reached it wouldn't be prudent to disclose further information at this early stage.
