Glen and Coleraine serve up a real treat thumbnailGlen captain Alex Doherty with the trophy after leading his team to success on Saturday

DESPITE scoring five goals, Eoghan Rua still came up just short to Glen in the final of the Derry Minor B Championship losing out in a nine goal thriller, 4-14 to 5-8, in Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

Glen came into the final as red hot favourites having lost only one game in their 10 game league campaign but they were made to battle all the way by a determined Eoghan Rua side until the final whistle.

The lead changed hands on no fewer than five occasions with the sides level three times throughout a terrific final.

Both teams were committed to attacking football with both forward lines geting the upper hand as the high scoring indicates.

In the end, the diference between the sides proved to be the scoring power of Glen full forward Alex Doherty who finished with an impressive 2-8 to his name, only two of his points coming from frees. Doherty was a real handful for the Eoghan Rua defence throughout with his movement, power and finishing the real game changer.

Eoghan Rua started well, leading 1-1 to 0-2 after just five minutes. They opened with a goal on a swift counter attack, Aidan McGinigle putting Lorcan McMullen in for a fine goal.
