Henry aiming big on home round thumbnailDesi Henry heads to the Ulster on the back of two podium finishes

DESI Henry believes he has what it takes to clinch his first international victory on this week’s Ulster Rally.

Part of his preparations for the Tarmac classic saw him lead the field home on July’s Tyrone Stages Rally.

That result quickly followed the Skoda man’s second-place finish on the Sligo Stages with Liam Moynihan.

With those performances helping to restore his fragile confidence following a challenging first-half to the season, Henry says he’s “going for gold” on the penultimate round of the British and Irish Championships.

It won’t be easy, however, as he will go up against a string of equally fast R5 drivers. These include last year’s Ulster Rally runner-up Alastair Fisher, who returns in a Fiesta, and the ever improving Fredrik Ahlin.

“Before Sligo everyone in the team agreed we needed to hit the reset button and it has worked,” he told Chronicle Sport. “I’m really happy with how the last two rallies have gone – we’ve been very competitive.
