FIFTEEN handicapper John Creighton played his way into contention for the Maclaine Cup at Bushfoot Golf Club on Saturday, almost lost it, then played his way back to a win over the closing holes.
John had a double bogey five at the short second hole before correcting that blip with a three at the par four eighth to get to the turn with 19 points on his card.
A steady run of three bogeyed holes was brought to a halt by a halt by a nasty "no score" at thirteen which threatened to de-rail John's round.
While he dropped a shot on fourteen, John hit four consecutive pars for twelve points to be able to sign up for another 19 back to push his card up the table to the top with 38 scored.
