WITH both these sides on 100% records after just two games, something had to give when they met in the third league outing of the season at Eoghan Rua - and it was Greenlough that faltered as they lost 1-10 to 0-5 to the Coleraine men.
This was a very cagey affair throughout, both teams setting up ultra defensively, indeed Greenlough were, if anything, more wedded to the massed defensive system than Eoghan Rua. At times Greenlough had all fifteen men inside their own half and with top forward Enda Lynn operating at midfield they never really posed enough of a threat going forward to cause the home defence too many problems.
Such was the paucity of scoring chances the opening quarter seen the sides score just three points, Eoghan Rua leading 0-2 to 0-1. The key score arrived in the sixteenth minute when Liam McGoldrick's high ball to the edge of the small square was flicked to the net by Barry McGoldrick who had stolen forward.
