‘Senior’ service

JOHNNY Martin Senior topped the Rathmore Winter League this week with a return of 29 points over the 13 holes in play on the Valley Links.
Playing off 17, Johnny didn't get away to a great start with a double bogey six on the first and a no score on five but he recovered to get his birdie three on the seventh and a two on f15 to take the points haul up to 29.
Thirteen handicapper John Ridgill matched that total but was eased into second place after countback.
John was seven over par after eight and played the final five holes in level par for his 29 point return and secured runners up-spot.
Two players finished on 26 points each, Keith Elliott and Gary Cardwell, with Keith getting the tie-break decision for third place.
He blanked the fourth hole but picked up a birdie three on seven to even things up before going on to drop just four more shots to the finish.
That gave the 20 handicapper his 26 points and secured third place.
Gary, playing off 11, was six over par after seven holes but hit a few pars and a birdie four on the long 16th to get back in the reckoning but 18 gave Gary nothing which didn't help in the tie break so fourth it had to be.
