Thursday, 9 February 2017
DALRIADA were knocked out of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools' Cup at the fourth round stage by neighbours Ballymena Academy.
The visitors were made to work hard for their win against a Dalriada side for whom Thomas Hunter was once again the star player.
Ballymena started strongly and took a fourteen point lead in the opening stages of Zthe first half. Oisin Jordan touched down for a try which was converted by Bruce Houston before Azur Allison scored a try which, once again, was converted by Bruce Houston.
Dalriada recovered from these early setbacks and took the game to Ballymena with Thomas Hunter keeping up his impressive try scoring record in the current Schools' Cup campaign when he took advantage of hesitancy in the Ballymena Academy defence.
He added the conversion to reduce the Dalriada deficit by half (14-7). Ross Fallows then outpaced the Ballymena Academy defence to touch down for a try. Hunter added the extras to draw the scores level at fourteen-all.
Then, just before the half-time break, Oisin Jordan touched down for his second try of the game to give Ballymena the lead.
The conversion kick was unsuccessful but Ballymena had a nineteen points to fourteen lead going in at the break.
Dalriada reduced the deficit to 19-17 early in the second half when Peter Elliott was successful with a penalty kick.
