McGonigle at the double for Bannsiders
Thursday, 26 January 2017
THE Fermanagh air obviously agrees with Coleraine striker Jamie McGonigle.
Back in September he scored twice to help his side to a 3-0 win over Ballinamallard Utd at Ferney Park.
At the weekend he was at it again, bagging a brace as the Bannsiders completed a hat-trick of wins over the Ducks.
The margin of victory wasn't quite as comprehensive this time, the visitors hanging on to win 2-1, but three points are thre points however they come.
McGonigle reacted quickest to prod home a Darren McAuley volley in the first half and showed great alertness to seize on a poor headed back pass to double his side's advantage after the break.
Ross Taheny, whose header led to McGonigle's second, made amends by pulling a goal back for the hosts but despite late pressure they failed to get a second goal and earn a share of the points.
The victory made it five wins on the bounce for Coleraine who look to have recovered some of their early season confidence following a poor run of form in December.
They leap-frogged rivals Ballymena Utd into fourth in the league table and look to be well placed to mount a serious challenge over the latter part of the season.
Especially as Saturday's win was achieved without several first-team regulars including Steven Douglas, Neil McCafferty, Jordan Allan and Eoin Bradley.
At least some of them will return for Saturday's visit of Ards when Coleraine will be aiming to make it 'six of the best' against Colin Nixon's men.
