Derry open McKenna Cup campaign against Armagh thumbnailKilrea’s Kevin Quinn and and Burren’s Liam Kerr battle for possession during Sunday’s Ulster Minor Football final at Shaw’s Road, which the Down champions won.

DERRY will field a new-look side when they begin the new season with a home game against Armagh in the Dr McKenna Cup this Sunday afternoon at Owenbeg, throw-in 2pm.
Oak Leafs boss Damian Barton has been forced to delve deep into the county's playing resources after a raft of experienced players opted not to play inter-county football this year.
In addition, he is likely to be without the Slaughtneil contingent for several weeks or at least until their All Ireland campaigns on both the footballing and hurling fronts come to an end.
Despite the upheaval, the manager admits he is looking forward to the challenge of a new season.
“The Dr McKenna Cup will give some players their first opportunity to experience life at senior inter-county level," he said.
“For others, it's a chance to get some competitive games under their belt as we look towards the start of the national league and those players with their respective colleges will also benefit from being involved in the competition."
