Thursday, 1 December 2016
THERE was a tie at the top of Division One of the Moresports Winter League at Bushfoot Golf Club at the weekend.
Trevor Doak and Lennie McIlroy both returned scores of thirty nine points with Trevor getting the nod via the countback system.
Playing off fourteen Trevor was out in five over par to have twenty points on the card at the turn.
He grabbed a birdie three on the twelfth but had a minor slip with just one point coming from sixteen.
Trevor finished the nine with nineteen scored which moved the card up to the Division topping thirty nine.
Lennie, playing off twelve, birdied the third and steady play before and after that saw him card twenty one for the outward nine.
Lennie didn't find any more birdies on his way in and his six over par score saw him add nineteen to the card for his thirty nine pointer.
In Divison Two Aubrey Sweeney scored forty three points off his mark of twenty one. He matched his handicap for the opening nine, scoring eighteen points, but improved on that greatly coming back.
Aubrey hit two birdies, a two on eleven and a three at the last and those eight points saw him add twenty three to the card for a total of forty three.
Ken Little allowed his standards to slip a bit this week as he couldn't quite match last week's forty two points, he could only muster forty one this time round.
Ken took twenty points from the front nine for his eight over par and added twenty one for the back nine, nine of those coming from the final three holes.
The resulting forty one for the round took second place in the division.
