Dunlop working on 2017 deal
Thursday, 24 November 2016
MICHAEL Dunlop has told Chronicle Sport he wants to finalise the bikes he will ride on the roads next year before the end of December. Dunlop has placed his trust largely on BMW machinery these past two seasons with these taking him to success on multiple occasions.
His single best performance came earlier this year when he became the fastest rider to ever lap the 37.75-mile Isle of Man TT course.
The twenty seven-year-old blitzed the previous record as he crossed the timing beam in a time a sixteen minutes and 53.929 seconds.
Dunlop has made no secret of his desire to go even faster in 2017 but to do that will need the right machinery beneath him. In 2015 he famously walked away from the Milwaukee Yamaha squad during practice week after struggling for speed on their new R1 Superbike.
“Nothing is confirmed yet in terms of machinery; this is what's called the 'silly season,'" he said. "Hopefully something will be sorted out in the next couple of weeks. I've got meetings at this week's NEC Show over at Birmingham so that's when it will all come into play.
