Goals the difference for Carey
Thursday, 22 July 2010
Rasharkin captain Brendan McMullan and Carey captain Nathaniel Hunter with referee Francis Traynor prior to the Intermediate Hurling Championship semi-final.
Carey...................................................2-9
Rasharkin............................................0-9
A GOAL in either half proved the difference between Carey and Rasharkin in the Intermediate Hurling Championship semi-final. Nathaniel Hunter got the first one after 10 minutes and it took his side to an interval lead of 1-5 to 0-5 while Shane McCambridge picked up the second, seven minutes from the end. Rasharkin, last season's junior champions put up a good show and gave the much more experienced Carey side quite a fright. Early points from Aiden Darragh and two from Brendan McMullan saw them lead three to one after 10 minutes but Hunter's goal and further points from Gerard McAuley, Martin McAuley and two from young James Black gave Carey their one goal interval advantage.
Again, a strong start to the second half with a couple of Darragh scores and another from Thomas McMullan saw Rasharkin level the game after just nine minutes but it was the North Antrim side which finished the stronger. Three Martin Hunter points, one from Martin McAuley and that McCambridge goal proved too much as Rasharkin failed to score during the final twenty minutes of the game. Cahil McAuley, James McQuaide, Fintan McCarry, Nathaniel Hunter, Colm McBride and James Black were best for the winners with Paul McMullan, Conor Hasson, Brendan McMullan, Michael Hasson, Thomas McMullan, Shane Hasson and Aiden Darragh all battling hard for the South West side.
