ROAD racing stars Ryan Farquhar, John Burrows, Paul Robinson, Adrian Archibald and brothers Michael and William Dunlop are among an exciting line up for the second Armoy Road Race on Saturday, August 7. The race, which was launched at the Bayview Hotel in Portballintrae on Wednesday past, made its debut last August and will once again act as the finale to the 2010 Ulster Championship season.
Scottish rider and 2010 North West 200 star Keith Amor could well be an addition to the line-up before the closing day on Friday, July 9, as well as the injured Guy Martin and Gary Johnston.
Newcomers to the county Antrim circuit include Waterford man Brian McCormick, Crumlin's Stephen Thompson and Ballygowan's Michael Pearson. Sam Dunlop and Czech star Michael Dokoupil will also join the grid line up.
Ryan Farquhar, William Dunlop, John Burrows, Brian McCormack, Paul Robinson, Wayne Hamilton and Sam Dunlop were at last week's launch as the race's main sponsor was unveiled. Coleraine Skip Hire & Recycling will once again back the race.
Affectionately known as 'The Race of Legends' the race set on the edge of the majestic Glens of Antrim, commemorates the skills and talents of four legendary riders who hailed from the Armoy region - Jim Dunlop, Frank Kennedy, Joey Dunlop and Mervyn Robinson famously referred to as the 'Armoy Armada.'
The 'Race of Legends' aims to recapture some of the fervour and nostalgia of those heady road racing days during the 1970's, yet deliver a safe, exciting and modern Race Day programme complementing Ireland's world famous national and international road races.
The event is part of the Kells/Armoy Cross Border Championship, of which there will be three feature races. The Adelaide International Kells Road Race Festival Week-end takes place from July 14-18 with Race Day on Sunday, July 18.
The organisers have drawn up a 10 race schedule with roads closing at 10am on Saturday, August 7 and re-opening 6.30pm at the latest. Practice is set for Friday, August 6 with roads closing from 3pm until 9.30pm.
