Upwards of 100 people attended a public meeting in the Marine Hotel last Tuesday evening, their attention captured by just what were McAlister Holdings' plans for the Marine Hotel's future.
A high quality design that will enhance and preserve the character of Ballycastle's most historical part of town - this is the vision put forward redeveloping the Marine Hotel into a new five star hotel, spa and leisure complex that will compete with some of the best resort hotels in Ireland.
After the meeting, Managing Director of McAlister Holdings, Mervyn McAlister, said: "We're absolutely delighted with feedback and expressions of support conveyed on Tuesday night both from councillors and the general public alike on what will be a significant landmark project for Ballycastle and the surrounding area.
“In particular it was extremely pleasing to witness local people in such numbers attend and proclaim their genuine excitement having personally reviewed the plans. Comments stating the absolute need for such a high quality facility in the area were repeated throughout the evening."
Prior to the public meeting, there was a meeting for local councillors where the exciting new proposals for the £30m redevelopment of the hotel were unveiled.
There are plans for a high quality 200 bed hotel, spa and leisure facilities, restaurant, plus conference and wedding provision as well as the creation of hundreds of new jobs within the construction and hospitality sectors during each stage of the scheme.
A planning application has yet to be lodged, but it is hoped that one will be lodged with the Planning Service by the end of September or beginning of October, with a decision expected within 12 months from that time.
