Drug arrests on the rise

CRIME figures obtained by the Chronicle show a significant rise in the number of arrests for possession of drugs across the borough last year.
While the number of more serious trafficking cases was down by a quarter across Causeway Coast and Glens, recorded cases of possession rose by over 25 per cent.
A total of 378 people were caught with illegal substances in 2017/18, compared to 301 the year before.Trafficking cases, which include distribution and street level supply, fell from 57 to 42 in the same period.
On the wider crime front the picture was more positive with recorded offences down by almost a percent point.
