COUNCILLORS have approved plans which will see 29 new warehouses being built for maturing Old Bushmills whiskey.
While the distillery insists the 43m expansion is required to fulfil growing world-wide demand, local residents concerned over the development's impact on the countryside, have raised serious questions over the company's production figures.
The application to develop farmland outside the village in four phases over 16 years was granted by the council's planning committee last Wednesday.
Ahead of the vote, Master Distiller and Site manager Colum Egan told members the development was vital for the the brand's future.
