Motorist in tears at inquest of Ballycastle pensioner

Thursday, 7 June 2018

A MOTORIST involved in a road traffic collision which resulted in the death of a 91-year-old Ballycastle woman, wept in court last week as Coroner Patrick McGurgan read out a pathologist's report detailing the pensioner's injuries.
The collision, which occurred on November 1, 2015, happened on Ann Street in Ballycastle as Mrs Mooney crossed the road with her three wheeled walking aid.
During the inquest the court heard how Paige Montgomery, from Bushmills, was travelling at approximately 25mph when she struck the pensioner, who had been returning from the nearby supermarket and had groceries hanging on a bag attached to her walking aid.
Mrs Mooney sustained severe head injuries and despite attempts to save her life, passed away later that evening at Causeway Hospital.
