A LOCAL woman who has just returned from a stint volunteering in Lesvos has described her experience as "sad and humbling".
Dympna Magee, who travelled out to Camp Moria with Rauri Morgan to volunteer for Refugee Rescue, said she went expecting the worst thing she could imagine, when in fact what she faced when she arrived was worse than she could ever have imagined.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Dympna said: "What I witnessed is so hard to describe. I went through so many emotions during my time on Lesvos, I was sad, angry, helpless, I just had so many questions and the answers were never quite what I hoped they would be,
“On the second night there two dinghy boats came in and I got an idea of how desperate these families fleeing Syria must be.
