Dympna's gift of kindness thumbnailDympna Magee (centre) pictured with Rauri Morgan who she will travel to Lesvos with this week. Also pictured is Dympna's daughter, Roisin.

LOCAL woman Dympna Magee will be taking a step into the unknown this week as she lends a helping hand to the volunteers currently helping refugees on the Greek island of Lesvos.
Dympna will travel with Rauri Morgan who has been out to Camp Moria before, so she's hoping that his experience will help her.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Dympna said she has always wanted to help her "fellow humans" and show a little bit of compassion to those in times of hardship. Dympna said: "When we started fundraising for the poor people who have to flee their homes due to war, it really struck a note with me. I felt so helpless. All we could do was fundraise and try to raise awareness of their plight - it just never seemed enough.
“I couldn't believe it when Rauri asked me to go out with him and help out. This is something I have always wanted to do since I was young."
When Dympna makes the journey this week, she leaves behind her own three children, but she said even though they will be without her for a week, they are more fortunate than any of the children she will encounter in her time away.
