Snow woes! thumbnailA beautiful snowy scene on the outskirts of Ballycastle.

SNOW, ice and high winds caused severe disruption to Ballycastle and the surrounding areas last week.
Sleet and snow made driving conditions hazardous in many parts as the Met Office warned that this might not be the last we see of the unwelcome weather!
A small number of primary and secondary schools in the area closed on Wednesday, re-opened on Thursday, only to close their doors again on Friday morning.
Although it was a hard call for schools who wanted to put the safety of their pupils first, and some closures didn't happen until half way through Friday morning due to the continuation of falling snow. It was reported that over 280 schools across the province had to close their doors.
Numerous events were postponed and cancelled, including Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council's meeting on Tuesday night as well as planned spoting events on Saturday, including park runs.
The UK's National Weather Service warned: "There is a chance of power cuts, while services such as mobile phone coverage may be affected. A few rural communities may become cut off. In addition some roads and pavements will turn icy, increasing the chances of accidents or injuriies."
