BEM for Selma thumbnailMrs Margaret Brown presents a 40 year service pin to Selma McMullan Captain of Ballycastle Girls’ Brigade during their 40th Anniversary display two years ago.

WELL KNOWN Liscolman woman, Selma McMullan, is set to receive a British Empire Medal for services to the Girls' Brigade in Ballycastle since it opened 42 years ago. Selma was named in the Queen's New Year Honours List for Services to Young People through the Girls' Brigade in Ballycastle.
A shocked Selma told The Chronicle the letter had came as "quite a surprise" and had been very unexpected!
She said: "The letter tells you to keep it to yourself, so I was very excited but once I had sent the letter off again I put it out of my mind again.
“I have loved every one of my 42 year with Ballycastle Girls' Brigade and have had the honour of being Captain for the last 24 years.
“We're fortunate in Ballycastle and it's something I am very proud of is that we're open to all denominations and I have had the pleasure of helping to guide a large number of young girls. The door was never closed to anyone since we formed and it has been a real honour to have young girls put their trust in me and allowed me to help them with different issues."
