Local clubs make ‘Saffron Aid’ donation! thumbnailAileen and Ciara McShane pictured with SVP volunteers as they hand over the Saffron Aid collection.

OVER the past number of weeks the Gaels of our local Gaelic Club in Ballycastle rallied around to make up Shoeboxes filled with gifts and essential, personal items to donate to those less fortunate in our community.
The appeal, 'Saffron Aid' that other Antrim GAA Clubs got involved in has been a great and rewarding success. Colm Maguire of The Sweetie Jar kindly facilitated the initiative allowing his shop on the Quay Road to be used as the drop off point, while the Club encouraged its members to buy extra items when out shopping and wrap up for someone who might not receive another gift this festive season. A Club spokesperson said: "The response was just brilliant and we are lucky to have such kind-hearted people amongst us."
Club representatives Cíara and Aileen McShane were on hand last Saturday to hand over all the donations to local Saint Vincent de Paul Society members. Bridie O'Neill of SVP was genuinely in awe of the generosity, and on behalf of the charity she thanked everyone who took time out to think of others and make this Christmas that little bit easier, and special, for those who need it most.
