Planners approve Causeway shop conversion thumbnailMcConaghy’s Souvenir Shop at the Giant’s Causeway.

PLANNERS say they have no power to insist the National Trust retains a souvenir shop occupied by a family that's traded at Giant's Causeway for generations.
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Planning Committee backed a recommendation that will allow the Trust to convert McConaghy's shop into a toilet block at the November meeting on Wednesday.
The change of use application attracted 23 letters of objection from people who supported the family's wish to remain on the premises.
It was lodged shortly after the Trust told Tommy McConaghy they would not be renewing his lease.
The charity said it needed the building to meet requests from growing numbers of visitors for toilets and baby changing facilities.
Last week planning committee members were told the change of use application would have little effect on the environment or the character of the building.
