Housing crisis in the Glens? thumbnailOliver McMullan, community activist and former Sinn Féin MLA has called for the Housing Executive to take action over the lack of housing in the Glens.

FORMER Sinn Féin MLA Mr Oliver McMullan has slammed a lack of social housing in the Glens, claiming it has resulted in the 'younger generation' moving to other areas to set up home. However, a Housing Executive spokesperson said there is a limited amount of suitable development land, and the cost of sites can be prohibitive for housing associations. As a result, no new sites have been secured in Cushendall and Waterfoot/Glenariff.
In a bid to keep the population of the Glens stable, Mr McMullan has said he will be meeting with the Housing Executive and the Housing Associations and asking them, as a matter of urgency, to tackle what he sees as a 'problem' of housing in the Glens.
