Beach racing on Portrush’s East Strand hailed a success thumbnailRyan McKeown takes to the air at the Portrush Beach Races on the East Strand on Sunday

THE first ever motorcycle beach race of its kind in Northern Ireland was held last weekend on the East Strand in Portrush.
The two day race event consisted over 100 riders taking part in 25 races on the Saturday and a further 20 on Sunday, with both solo motorcycles and quads in competition.
Spectators were entertained as riders conquered the challenges of a beach course and many of the riders had never before experienced racing on an all natural sand track.
The beach races were organised by the Foyle District Motor Cycle Club in conjunction with Causeway Coast and Glens Council.
Race classes were also sponsored by HTM Offroad Cullybackey, JSC Builders Merchant Armoy, Nutt Travel and Gilchrist Plant and Haulage.
