Dark Hedges to close to traffic thumbnailThe Dark Hedges outside Armoy will be closed to traffic in less than three weeks

THE Dark Hedges will be closed to traffic in less than three weeks, subject to certain exemptions, after the Department of Infrastructure made a Control of Traffic Order for the stretch of road along the iconic trees.
The Chair of the Dark Hedges Preservation Trust, Mr Mervyn Storey, welcomed the move saying: "This is long over due, but because of the number of people coming to the site we could not continue to ignore the problems this was creating, including issues of people's safety.
“I know people have been very frustrated about the length of time it has taken and wanted corrective action taken more quickly.
“I know how difficult and fraught the problems have been, but it's not only about road closure, its about parking and traffic management.
“But this takes the pressure off and we now have a wee bit of time to get something in place in respect of car parking.
