Turning a family tragedy into hope

THREE decades after 'Gentle Giant' George Jamieson carried a beer keg on his back from Lisnagunogue to Ballintoy for Cancer Research, his son Aaron embarked on a similar mission of mercy for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Unlike his father, who had help from a close friend Mervyn Simpson, personal trainer Aaron carried the keg on his own, from Portrush to Bushmills, on Saturday.
The 28-year-old, from Bushmills, was spurred on by his family and friends during the 4.82 mile route; a similar distance as his late father carried a keg, along with Meryvn, in 1987.
After 61-year-old George's body was recovered from a car in Ballintoy harbour on Christmas Eve 2015 his devastated family were determined to turn the tragedy into hope.
