Developer plans to address traffic congestion with underground car park

A developer is bidding to address traffic congestion at the Giant’s Causeway by building an underground car park for around 200 vehicles.

The £5m scheme would see approach roads realigned, the addition of a roundabout and 179 spaces located under a grass roof.

The development would provide an additional 43 surface spaces with 13 coach parking spots and new bus stops.

It is located just yards from the National Trust’s Visitor Centre on a greenfield site bordered by the Causeway and Runkerry Roads.

The developer, Portnaboe Ltd, says the scheme has been carefully designed to have as little impact on the landscape as possible

The firm has already conducted a public consultation under pre-planning protocol, required of economically significant developments.
