Causeway shop faces bleak future thumbnailShop owner Tommy McConaghy enjoying an ice-cream with Daniel O’Donnell, who visited the gift shop in July of this year

A NUMBER of objections have been submitted to the Planning Service after an application from The National Trust to build toilets in a long-established tourist shop raised concerns.

The application, if approved, would see a long established family business ejected from their current trading place.

McConaghy’s Shop has been in the family for generations and moved to their present site beside the Causeway Hotel following a fire in the previous visitor centre.

However the planning application, which is for change of use, would see an office and shop, as well as toilet facilities, replacing the McConaghy family business.

At the time of going to press, 23 letters of objection had been raised in respect of the change of use application, including one from the family that currently run their business from there.
