PORTSTEWART Golf Club Captain Paul Hewitt hosted his Captain's Day on Saturday with a full turnout of support from members and guests.
The main prize was won by Stephen Garrett with a great score of 40 points from his handicap of scratch. Over the opening nine holes Stephen's only variation from par golf was to eagle the par five seventh leaving him at two under par 34 which was worth 20 points to the card. He bogeyed the tenth and seventeenth in but got birdies on both par fives, with a two on the twelfth and a three on the par four sixteenth to get back in two under as well. That was a four under par round of 68 and gave Stephen 40 points to keep him one ahead of the rest.
Two handicapper Keri Kidd was the nearest rival with 39 points scored. Keri birdied the first in three and both par fives to be one over par after nine with 18 points logged. He bettered that over the inward nine, bogeying just one hole, the seventeenth, and getting a birdy four on thirteen and an eagle three on fourteen for a two under par back nine that gave up 21 points for Keri's total of 39. Ten handicapper Stephen Henry topped Division One with 36 points.
