AN inspirational Ballycastle teenager who has pioneered organ donation since receiving three transplants has been honoured in America for her "exemplary" community work.
Lucia Quinney Mee, 17, was named one of two all-Ireland Youth Volunteers of the Year at the 2017 Community Gala Awards ceremony in Dublin earlier this year.
The Cross and Passion College student had her first liver transplant at the age of eight. Following two more transplants, Lucia is extremely passionate about the incredible gift of organ donation. Two years ago she set up the campaign 'Live Loudly Donate Proudly.'
Lucia and the other award-winning volunteer Emily Duffy, from County Limerick, were honoured in Washington D.C. earlier this month at a gala awards ceremony at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History during the 22nd annual presentation of the US Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
