AN inspirational Ballycastle teenager who has pioneered organ donation since receiving three transplants has been honoured for her "exemplary" community work. Lucia Quinney Mee, 17, was named one of two all-Ireland Youth Volunteers of the Year at the 2017 Pramerica Spirit of Community gala awards ceremony in Dublin on Sunday night.
The Cross and Passion College student had her first liver transplant at the age of eight. Following two more transplants, Lucia is extremely passionate about the incredible gift of organ donation. Two years ago she set up the campaign 'Live Loudly Donate Proudly.'
Lucia and the other award-winning volunteer Emily Duffy, from County Limerick, each received €1,000 for a charity of their choice. A gold medallion and a crystal trophy for their school which were presented by Irish International rugby player Jordi Murphy.
In May they will travel on an all-expenses paid trip to Washington DC to meet up with youth volunteers from across America and participate in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards ceremony.
Speaking after receiving her award, Lucia said: 'I am delighted that my campaign to promote awareness of organ donation has been recognised in the Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards.
