Clubs rally together for good cause

AMBITIOUS plans to stage one of the biggest charity Targa Rallies ever seen in Northern Ireland has received the support of three local motoring groups. Mid Antrim, North Ulster and Coleraine and District motor clubs have joined forces with seven others to run the Circuit of Ulster Targa Rally on March 25.
The route for the one-day event, which is being organised to raise thousands of pounds for the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance, will take competitors to towns and villages throughout the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area where a series of short, man-made stages will have to be negotiated.
Starting and finishing in Toome crews will tackle a stage at the North West 200 race paddock in Portstewart and Ballypatrick Forest outside Ballycastle.
Timed tests have also been lined up for Springwell Forest between Coleraine and Limavady and, with the Council's permission, the car park in Waterfoot.
Clerk of the Course Stephen McFerran says close to 80 entries have been received within the first week of these being accepted and remained confident of reaching the magical 365 mark. "Every entry we receive £100 is donated to the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance, and so far we have £7,500," he said.
