Red Letter Day for Rathlin

Thursday, 8 December 2016

CHRISTMAS has come early for Rathlin Island with tomorrow's (Wednesday, December 7) official opening of its newly refurbished Manor House. New operators Brian and Genevieve McLernon, proprietors of the Ardaghmore B & B in Ballycastle for over 20 years, are taking over the running of the listed Georgian building in Church Bay which boasts a licensed eatery and stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean.
The 12-bedroom guest house, owned by the National Trust and now leased to the Rathlin Development & Community Association, has been transformed following a major grant from the Coastal Communities.
The grant of 734,642 was the largest single award from the fund made to Northern Ireland in the second round.
It was later strengthened by a further 250,000 cash injection from the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (then DARD).
Support for the social and economic sustainability of the island has come through the Rathlin Policy, endorsed by the NI Executive in February 2010.
