Animals top the grievance list thumbnailMinister Michelle McIlveen

MORE than 500 noise complaints were received by Causeway Coast and Glens District Council during 2015/2016, new statistics have shown. Animal noise accounted for well over half of the grievances with loud music, televisions and parties sparking 69 complaints. Agricultural noise, noisy neighbours and entertainment premises were also cited by residents seeking to have their peace to be restored. However, following investigations into 509 complaints, only two notices were served.
Environment Minister Michelle McIlveen welcomed the lowest number of noise complaints since 2005 recorded by district councils. Statistical report 'Noise Complaint Statistics for Northern Ireland 2015-2016,' shows that 10,754 complaints were received in 2015/16, compared to 11,951 the previous year, a reduction of 10 per cent.
Domestic noise remains the largest cause of noise complaints across the province, with 79 per cent of noise complaints relating to noise from domestic premises. Of these complaints 41 per cent related to loud music, televisions and parties and 37 per cent to animal noise.
