‘Big Ken’s Breakfast’
Thursday, 24 November 2016
THE development of the Dervock and district Tourist Trail has taken another step forward with the creation of a local dish linked to the village's iconic Olympian Kennedy Kane McArthur.
‘Big Ken's Breakfast', an Olympian start to the Day, has been created by the Mill Tea Room's Jennifer Laverty in admiration of KK McAruthur and his training regime. Though everyone has heard of KK McArthur less people know that every morning Ken would start his day off by consuming a bowl of porridge and a BIG Ulster fry.
Priced at £6.13p, this is his actual running number when he won 'Olympic Gold' in the marathon in Sweden in 1912.
Mrs Laverty commented; "When approached to take this suggestion forward themed around local heroes and figures of historical interest, we were only too happy to get involved and to embrace the reason behind the proposal."
The Tourist Trail initiative is supported by Ultoniae Cultural & Heritage Society and Dervock & District Community Association.
