SF meet with Chief Fire Officer

Local Sinn Fein members have met with the Chief Fire Officer to discuss Carnlough and Cushendall stations. MLA Oliver McMullan was accompanied by Glens Sinn Féin Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop to the meeting with Chief Fire Officer Peter Craig as well as the Chairperson of the Fire Authority Joe McKee.
The meeting focussed on staffing in Carnlough Station and the ongoing campaign for a new station in Cushendall.
Mr McMullan said: "It is important that the we have an efficient and well equipped fire service to deal with all emergencies in the East Antrim area.
“The station at Carnlough has been understaffed for several years now and I have been promised today that recruitment for retained staff will take place in April or early May and the successful candidates will be in place by the end of the summer and ready to begin training.
“We know that the business case for the new station in Cushendall will be completed by April and on the Ministers desk by September for approval.
“The meeting today was constructive and I am pleased that the Fire Service are listening to the people of East Antrim when it comes to providing adequate fire service in the region.
“I will continue to press the Minister for the need for the new station in Cushendall and will press for the mandatory staffing levels in Carnlough station."
