Danny’s a little star thumbnailEight-year-old Danny Gilmore proudly shows off his Cancer Research UK/T K Maxx Little Star Award.

BRAVE Danny Gilmore is a shining star in the eyes of all who know him, and the eight-year-old, who has battled cancer, has had his courage recognised by a national charity.
The Ballycastle schoolboy had to endure 10 hours of surgery to remove a brain tumour, 30 courses of radiotherapy, seven blocks of chemotherapy, and has been put under anaesthetic a total of 47 times.
And throughout his ordeal, Danny has continued to smile and shine, and for his bravery has received a very special star-shaped chrome trophy.
The annual Cancer Research UK Little Star Awards, in partnership with TK Maxx, acknowledge the unique challenges faced by youngsters who encounter cancer.
Danny's mother Anne-Marie nominated him for the accolade and beamed with pride as he was also handed a £50 TK Maxx voucher and certificate signed by celebrities including Leona Lewis, American heart-throbs the Jonas Brothers and athletics phenomenon Usain Bolt.
Danny was just three when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour in Coleraine hospital in June 2005. He was taken to Belfast, where an MRI scan revealed he would need surgery and on June 14, 2005, he had surgery to remove his tumour.
